New vehicle sales in Malaysia fell by 18.2% in April to 41,135 units compared with 50,279 a year earlier, according to data released by the Malaysian Automotive Association.
Passenger car sales fell by 18.5% to 37,259 units, while commercial vehicle sales fell by 15% to 3,876 units.
As well as slowing economic growth, the association blamed the weak sales on higher interest rates on car loans. The MAA added that sales volumes in May were unlikely to show any improvement.
