Malaysia’s state-controlled carmaker Proton Holdings Bhd has said that it is not selling its Cikarang plant, near the Indonesian capital of Jakarta.

Proton was boosting its presence in Indonesia, a key export market for the company, its managing director Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir said in a statement.

He gave no further details. The firm said it was responding to an Indonesian media report.

Indonesia’s market for private cars was estimated to grow 12% a year, Proton said.
