Malaysia’s Proton and Japan’s Honda Motor have agreed to explore opportunities to collaborate on the development of new products and technologies.
Proton’s parent company, DRB-Hicom, announced the news at the local Bursa Malaysia stock exchange.
The Malaysian conglomerate hopes this initial agreement will lead to the development of a strategic partnership between the two companies, including collaboration in new product development, technology enhancement of current Proton products and the sharing of platforms and factories.
DRB-Hicom has long had a partnership with Honda, pre-dating its acquisition of Proton, and already has a dedicated assembly plant and dealer network.
