Passenger car sales in Malaysia rose 3.5% in November from the same month last year to 28,050 units from 27,110, a trade body said on Tuesday.

Total November sales, including commercial vehicles, grew 7.2% to 38,633 units, from 36,030 in the same month last year, the Malaysian Automotive Association said in a statement cited by Kyodo News.

The relatively smaller rise in sales was due to a shorter working month in November due to holidays to mark the religious holidays of Eid al-Fitr and Diwali, the association said.

Also, finance firms were more selective in giving out credit for vehicle purchases, it said.

In October, total sales soared 29.1% to record monthly-high of 56,696 units, helped by favourable interest rates and strong deliveries ahead of the November holidays, Kyodo News added.
