New vehicle sales in Malaysia rose by 8.6% to 48,702 units in November, from 44,845 units a year earlier, according to data released by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).
Compared with the 53,654 units sold October, sales were down by 9.2%, however, which the association attributes mainly to shortages of certain models caused by the recent floods in Thailand.
Passenger vehicles sales accounted for 42,754 of the November total, with commercial vehicles making up the remaining 5,948 units.
Cumulative sales for the eleven month period rose 0.4% to 552,561 units, from 550,391 in the year-earlier period. Of these, 492,884 were passenger vehicles and 59,677 were commercial vehicles.
The association also revealed that vehicle production in November declined by 2.5% to 35,355, from 36,265 units a year earlier. Year-to-date output was down by 4.6% at 501,755 units.
