GM-Chevrolet’s recently appointed Malaysian distributor, Naza group, is targeting up to 1,600 vehicle sales in 2010 – helped by the launch of the Cruze compact passenger car in the second quarter, according to Naza CEO Datuk SM Faisal Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin.

Naza group is also the importer and distributor of Ferrari, Peugeot, Kia, Brabus and Maserati vehicles in Malaysia.

The Cruze model is expected to be the mainstay product in the range this year, accounting for between 1,200-1,500 sales. Other models will follow later in the year and the Colorado pickup truck is also expected to be introduced by late 2010/early 2011.

Mr Faisal said Naza is also evaluating whether to assemble key Chevrolet models in Malaysia from imported knocked-down (CKD) kits, with a view to starting operations in 2011. The company is also studying opportunities to export these models to other ASEAN countries.

In the meantime, Naza will also focus on expanding the Chevrolet dealer and service network across Malaysia, from the current eight fully-fledged outlets to 18 by the end of 2010.
