Mahindra & Mahindra exported only 733 vehicles during April 2020. Maruti Suzuki reported zero domestic sales and even fewer exports than M&M.
Domestic sales of vehicles during the month were “completely impacted by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and resulting national lockdown”, the automaker said without providing any numbers.
Veejay Nakra, chief executive office of the automotive division, said: “We are working hand in hand with all stakeholders, especially our dealer and supplier partners, to get our ecosystem started, once the lockdown is lifted. The safety of all our employees will be of paramount importance to us while resuming our operations. We are hopeful that our dealerships will open soon and have stocks to cover the first few weeks of sale.”
In contrast, M&M sold 10,938 vehicles in February 2020, compared to 26,109 vehicles in February 2019, 15,856 commercial vehicles versus 21,154 and exported 1,839 vehicles.
Overall automotive sales reached 32,476 vehicles in February 2020 compared to 56,005 vehicles in February 2019.
The lower February volume reflected a sharp fall in Indian market sales even before coronavirus hit.
