Global supplier Magna has opened a new body and chassis manufacturing facility in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
The 189,000 sq ft factory will produce structural welded assemblies for global automakers including BMW and Mercedes-Benz. It currently employs 400 people and this expected to grow to approximately 1,000 at full production.
Magna established its first factory in Mexico in 1991 with the opening of Autotek Puebla. The new body and chassis plant in San Luis Potosi gives it 32 facilities and over 28,000 employees in Mexico.
"On behalf of Magna, I want to thank the local community and the state of San Luis Potosí for their ongoing support and collaboration on this project," said Sandro Passera, vice president of Cosma Mexico. "They have helped make it possible for us to continue growing our world-class manufacturing operation, and we are excited for the opportunity to support our customers from this new facility."
