Kia Motors is currently making final preparations for its launch later this year in India, a country with a domestic vehicle market of over 4.3m units last year.

The carmaker started building a vehicle assembly plant in Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh state in October 2017 with an expected production capacity of around 300,000 units per year.

Test production began earlier this year with a new compact SUV model to be the first model to roll out of the production line.

Earlier this month the car manufacturer invited 120 newly recruited Indian dealers to visit South Korea for a major event to raise brand awareness, a tour of its headquarters in Seoul and of its main R&D centre in Namyang, Gyeonggi Province.

The company is making strong efforts to ensure its dealers will play their part in a successful penetration of one of Asia’s largest markets, by promoting Kia’s brand and design concepts, quality competitiveness and global presence.

Currently Kia’s parent company Hyundai Motor is the second largest carmaker in India after Maruti/Suzuki with 710,000 sales in the country and a passenger vehicle market share of around 20%.
