South Korean automaker KG Mobility, the automaker formerly known as Ssangyong Motor, boosted its domestic model line this week with the launch of the Torres EVX, the EV version of its recently launched compact SUV.
The new model is sold alongside the Tivoli, Korando, Rexton and ICE Torres SUVs in South Korea. The Torres model was launched a year ago with a 1.5-litre petrol engine, achieving 50,000 sales world wide to date.
The new EVX is the company’s second EV after the Korando e-Motion launched early in 2022. According to local reports, this model has been sold mainly overseas due to battery supply issues.
The EVX is priced between KRW48m and KRW50m (US$36,000 and $37,600) for E5 and E7 trim variants respectively, before government subsidies which reduce prices to below KRW40m, according to the company.
The range has a 73kWh high energy density lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack supplied by BYD Auto which the company clames provides a range of 433km on a single charge.
The 152 kW front wheel drive motor delivers 207 hp and is combined with a three stage regenerative braking system which charges the battery during deceleration.
