Volkswagen wants to increase sales in Japan this year by 18.5% over 2010 to 60,000 vehicles thanks to new models.
Volkswagen Japan, whose sales in Japan grew 8.4% to top 50,000 vehicles in 2011, said it would release the Up in the second half of 2012.
”This lightweight fuel-efficient car will be a new entry model for Volkswagen,” meeting needs of the domestic users who prefer small, fuel-efficient cars, Gerasimos Dorizas, president of Volkswagen Group Japan, told Kyodo News in Tokyo.
The automaker launched a new version of its Golf hatchback, for years a top import model in Japan, with idle stop system and fuel economy of up to 18.4 kilometres per litre of petrol.
