Sales of used vehicles in Japan rose 8.3% in May from a year earlier to 411,140 units for the first rise in five months, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association told Kyodo News.

By type, sales of used passenger vehicles increased 7.9% while those of trucks grew 10.7%.

The association attributed the good showings to many popular types of vehicles being put on the second-hand car market in the reporting month, reflecting strong sales of new cars which marked the second consecutive monthly increase in May.
