Toyota’s 26.6% year on year rise in sales of cars and light trucks in the United States in 2012 was the first such increase in five years.

Its annual vehicle sales in the United States topped 2m units for the first time in four years, marking a recovery from recent massive recalls and natural disasters, Jiji Press noted.

Toyota was the only major automaker with a drop in US sales in 2010 after the recalls. It saw its volume slip below 1.7m vehicles in 2011 for the first time since 2000 due to supply shortages caused by the flooding in Thailand and the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
