Toyota’s hybrid Prius hybrid passenger car has received a vehicle registration certificate from the Chinese government.


The largest Japanese automaker told Kyodo News the Prius has become the first hybrid vehicle to be certified in the country.


Toyota has shipped 30 Priuses to China from Japan for exhibition and test drives through its dealerships in Beijing and other Chinese cities.


Toyota is set to begin production of the Prius in China by the end of this year, the first time the eco-friendly vehicle has been built outside Japan.


Sichuan FAW Toyota Motor. – a joint venture between Toyota and China FAW Group, China’s top car maker – will build the car, Kyodo News said.
