Toyota Motor’s global automobile production was back to pre-tsunami levels by the end of September.
Production was disrupted when suppliers’ factories were damaged after north-eastern Japan was hit by earthquake and tsunami on 11 March. A new Toyota assembly plant in the affected region was not affected itself.

Production resumed partially from the end of March but the company said in late April that output was expected to be back to normal in November or December.
Delivery of some popular vehicles will likely remain delayed, however, because inventories have run low. Lead times for eight types of vehicles including the Camry medium-size sedan, the Prius Alpha hybrid and the Alphard and Vellfire minivans is expected to exceed three months.
In the coming months, Toyota employees will work extra hours to make up for lost production.
