Despite the effects of Japan’s earthquake and tsunami in March, Toyota expects its global output to reach about 7.7m units for the financial year to next March, up 4% from its earlier forecast.
The improvement has been helped by a recovery in Toyota’s parts supply chain, the Nikkei business daily reported.

Along with other Japanese carmakers, Toyota was forced to slash production after the disaster in the northeastern part of the country disrupted the supply chains, including production at chipmaker Renesas Electronics, a key supplier of microprocessors to the auto industry.
In June, Toyota said it expected its global production to reach 7.39m units in the 2011/12 financial year but the supply chains have mended more quickly than initially expected and Toyota’s production returned to nearly normal levels in late June, the Nikkei reported.
However, this year’s production figure is still well below the 8.68m units manufactured in the financial year to March 2008.
