Toyota has officially launched a research and development centre in Thailand to better respond to diversifying demand and tastes in other Asian markets, Kyodo News reported.

With a similar R&D base created in Australia in March, Toyota seeks to handle the needs of growing markets in Asia and Oceania by modifying the specifications and body of base models developed in Japan, the report added.

The establishment of Toyota Technical Centre Asia Pacific (Thailand) Co. means the automaker is conducting body and major component design in five major market regions – Asia, North America, Europe, Australia and Japan – Kyodo said.
