Toyota has agreed to pay a US$16m (JPY1.6bn) settlement over the safety recall of its vehicles that were allegedly at risk for unintended acceleration and braking problems.

The announcement came after Toyota said in February that it had reached a $29m settlement with the attorney generals of 29 US states and one territory over the way it handled the recall of its cars in 2009 and 2010.
