Toyota has agreed to pay a US$16m (JPY1.6bn) settlement over the safety recall of its vehicles that were allegedly at risk for unintended acceleration and braking problems.

The announcement came after Toyota said in February that it had reached a $29m settlement with the attorney generals of 29 US states and one territory over the way it handled the recall of its cars in 2009 and 2010.

Despite the settlement of the latest case in Orange County, California, the automaker continues to deny all the claims made in the suit, including allegations that Toyota concealed safety issues related to its floor mats and accelerator pedal issues, Kyodo News reported.
