Production of Toyota-brand passenger cars rose 33% to 273,130 units in August. The automaker’s total output of Toyota-branded models including trucks and buses was up 30.9% to 300,392. Including Daihatsu (mostly small cars) and Hino (trucks and buses), total group output for the month rose 29.7% to 368,719 units.
Domestic sales of Toyota-brand vehicles rose 2.4% to 101,801 units – 87,926 cars (up 1.4% and the first rise in five months), 13,875 trucks and buses (+9.0%).
Group sales totalled 145,731 (+3.8%) including 39,341 Daihatsu models (+7.4%) and 4,589 Hinos (+4.7%).
Group exports from Japan rose 47.1% last month to 211,014 vehicles. Toyota-brand passenger car shipments soared 51.1% to 182,680 units. Daihatsu car exports also surged 73.3% to 10,708 units.
Overseas, group production was up 6.5% to 325,246 with Toyota brand output rising 7% to 322,079 while Daihatsu assembly abroad plunged 26.8% to 3,167 units, mostly due to a downturn in Indonesia.
