Suzuki has recalled 119,718 units of five models of passenger cars produced between March 2003 and September this year because of an airbag problem.

The five models are the Swift, Wagon R, Solio, Cruise and MW, the car maker said in a report to the government that was made available to Kyodo News.

Airbags for front passenger seats in the vehicles may not work properly in case of a collision, it said.

Suzuki is also recalling about 650 Chevrolet Optra cars imported from South Korea between December 2004 and January this year, and 180 Carry minitrucks produced between January and October this year.

The Optra has a welding problem that could force the engine to suddenly come to a halt, while special versions of the Carry have failed to meet safety standards, Suzuki said, according to the news agency.
