A Japanese steel producer will outsource production of sheet steel to ThyssenKrupp to supply the European plants of Japanese vehicle manufacturers, according to a Japanese news report.

The Nikkei financial daily newspaper said that JFE Holdings will also outsource some production to Sumitomo Metal Industries, which is forming an alliance with Tata Steel to supply Japanese manufacturers in Europe.

Reuters reported that JFE has only allowed ThyssenKrupp to use its sheet steel technology, and is not planning to outsource production. Sumitomo denied the report.

The Nikkei said that Japan’s top four steel producers are aiming to double their overseas production. The top four producers are Nippon Steel, JFE Steel, Sumitomo Metal and Kobe Steel.
