On the same day that rival Denso announced a $US75 million Czech Republic car
air conditioner plant comes the news that Sanden Corp., known particularly for
a/c compressors, also has European expansion plans.

Sanden plans to increase French production of a/c systems from two to 2.3 million
units a year. Unlike Denso, which is going after European car makers, Sanden
is targetting Japanese manufacturers in Europe.

The company has recently invested about $US33 million in aluminum casting and
machining facilities at Sanden Manufacturing Europe (SME).

Sanden’s German research operation develops air conditioning systems and
compressors and provides technical back-up to customers.
