Toyota Motor ‘s Vitz [sold outside Japan as the Yaris or Echo] was the best-selling new passenger car in Japan in February, grabbing the top spot for the first time since July 2000, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association reportedly said on Friday.
Kyodo News said that following the February 1 of the redesigned model line, its first changeover in six years, the Vitz sold 15,165 units in the month, followed by 13,811 units for Toyota’s Corolla and 12,678 units for Nissan Motor’s Note.
Toyota accounted for five of the 10 bestsellers in the month, while Nissan saw four models in the list, the largest number since July 1985, the report added.
Kyodo said nine of the 10 bestsellers were subcompact cars – the remaining one was Toyota’s Wish minivan.
