Toyota global sales in May rose 13.4% year on year, despite worldwide safety recalls, to 676,675 Toyota and Daihatsu cars and Hino trucks.
The automaker said global production rose 27% to 637,675 units.
Other Japanese makers also reported sales and production gains on Monday, AFP news agency said.
Honda Motor marked its 11th straight monthly increase of domestic sales, which rose 18.0% year on year, while producing 278,543 vehicles in May, up 42.8%. It did not give global sales figures.
Nissan Motor saw May exports nearly double (+94.9%) to 47,993 units and upped production 41.9% to 309,287.
