Malaysian assembler and distributor UMW Toyota Motor said on Thursday that parts supply, disrupted following the massive 11 March earthquake and tsunami in Japan, has recovered and it would resume its regular two-shift operation from 23 May.
UMW Toyota, a joint venture between Malaysia’s UMW Corporation and Toyota Motor, had cut production from 25 April and this had been expected to last until 3 June due to difficulties in getting parts from suppliers in Japan.
The normal two shift, five-day work week was slashed to one shift, three days a week.
”We are delighted that with the strong efforts taken by our principal, Toyota Motor Corporation and all related parties including our suppliers, we can resume to normal production earlier than expected,” UMW Toyota President Ismet Suki said in a statement cited by Kyodo News.
Toyota is the top selling foreign vehicle brand in Malaysia.
