Honda plans to launch its postponed Fit Shuttle, a wagon-like variant of the Fit/Jazz hatchback on 16 June, offering it, like the Fit, in both regular and hybrid versions, Japanese media reported.
Honda had planned to launch the new model on 18 March but the earthquake/tsunami on 11 March halted the introduction as parts supplies were affected. Production at the Suzuka factory in Mie Prefecture began in early May and has been ramped up enough to support the 16 June 16 release date, the Nikkei daily reported, quoting unnamed company sources, according to Reuters. Actual deliveries are expected to begin in or after July, the paper added.
Honda launched a tall, five-door model called Shuttle as part of its 1983-87 Civic range, selling it alongside the three-door hatch and four-door sedan in place of the previous 1979-1982 generation’s five-door hatchback and wagon models.
A second generation Civic Shuttle was offered in 1988-1992. The Fit Shuttle surfaced at the beginning of 2011 when pictures of the new model planned for the Japanese market appeared on the internet, apparently taken from a brochure.
Honda sells the Fit/Jazz hatchback worldwide and recently added a hybrid variant. An accompanying mid-life update saw a CVT automatic transmission replace an automated manual in European models.
