Global powertrain supplier BorgWarner on Friday said it would donate US$100,000 to the Red Cross toward disaster relief for the survivors of the recent earthquake and tsunami disasters in Japan. The company also would match all donations from its employees around the world.

“We believe in supporting the communities where we work and live. This is one of those times when one of our communities needs us more than ever,” said Timothy Manganello, chairman and CEO. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Japan including all of our Japanese employees, business partners and friends as they recover from this disaster.”

The supplier operates five facilities in Japan, including a plant with its joint venture partner, NSK-Warner. All BorgWarner employees and NSK-Warner associates working and traveling in Japan are believed to be safe and none of BorgWarner’s facilities have been damaged.
