Vehicle output in Japan fell 8.4% in October from a year earlier to 751,620 units – the first drop in a year.

The fall follows the ending of a government subsidy programme programme for the purchase of eco-friendly cars at the end of September, said the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association.

Production of passenger cars fell 9.7% to 644,965 units, while truck output rose 0.1% to 97,781 units. Bus production rose 0.9% to 8,874 units.

Japan’s auto exports during the month increased 10.9% to 417,190 units, the 10th consecutive monthly rise.

Passenger car exports rose 12.1% to 372,049 units while truck exports were up 4% to 35,988 units. Bus exports shrank 6.1% to 9,153 units, the association added.
