Production of Mazda’s Demio (2 for export) has reached one million units.
This milestone was achieved in the 10 years and three months since production began in July 1996 at Ujina Plant No. 1 located near the automaker’s headquarters in Hiroshima.
The Demio was first launched in August 1996 and replaced by a second generation model in August 2002. That model is also built for Europe in a Ford plant in Spain.
Last August, the Demio marked its 10th anniversary on the Japanese market. In that month the model ranked eighth for single model sales with a volume of 4,672 units (according to the Japan Automobile Dealers Association), becoming one of Mazda’s longest selling products.
