Vehicle sales in Japan, excluding 660cc minivehicles, fell 6.5% in June from a year earlier to 328,375 vehicles, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association said on Monday.


For the January to June period, sales totalled 1,999,048 units, down 3.8% from a year earlier, Reuters reported.


Year to date, car sales fell 5.5% to 1,698,054 but truck sales rose 7% to 291,228.


Minivehicle sales rose 9.1% in June from a year earlier to 181,549 units, according to the Japan Mini Vehicle Association.


Reuters said June was the sixth consecutive month of year-on-year gains in sales of the vehicles, which have maximum engine displacement of 660cc and account for roughly one-third of the domestic car market.

Mini car sales were up 7.5% to 800,355 year to date and little commercial vehicles posted a 2.8% drop to 271,597.
