Nissan Motor on Monday began inviting car dealers in China to sell cars under the Infiniti line in its first step to launch the luxury brand there, the company told Kyodo News.

Chinese retail outlets are expected to begin sales by the end of 2007, the report added.

Nissan wants dealerships in China’s major metropolitan areas including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou to carry the brand.

Kyodo News noted that the company’s marketing push is in line with its three-year plan that began this fiscal year to launch the brand in South Korea, Russia and China in addition to the United States, Canada and the Middle East, where Infiniti cars are already marketed.

Infiniti was first introduced in the United States in 1989.
