Nissan Motor is studying three possible locations in Russia for a new plant in a move to start local production in the fast-growing Russian auto market, according to Reuters.

A Nissan spokeswoman told the news agency the automaker is considering its options in Russia but has not yet made a decision.
Reuters said the Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper reported on Monday that Nissan is finalising plans to build a passenger car assembly plant near St. Petersburg at a cost of JPY10bn to JPY20bn.
The newspaper reportedly said construction is expected to begin as early as this year, with the plant beginning production in 2008 at an initial rate of around 20,000 vehicles a year.
