Mitsubishi Motors said it will supply over 500 i-MiEV electric vehicles to the Estonian government, its biggest order to date for the vehicle.

The government plans to use these i-MiEVs in public facilities, particularly social welfare, as part of its aim of increasing the use of EVs throughout the country.

Mitsubishi will provide technical support to the government for monitoring CO2 emission reductions achieved by the car. The 507 units will be shipped to Estonia by end of fiscal 2011.

The i-MiEV first went on sale in July 2009 aimed mainly at fleet customers at first and sales have since expanded from Japan to Hong Kong, Australia and Europe. Sales will start later this year in in Canada and the United States this autumn.

MMC also builds Peugeot and Citroen branded versions for PSA.
