Mitsubishi has announced that it will introduce an internet-based vehicle order and production system in 2002, Japanese Automobile News reports.
The new system will enable buyers to place orders directly with the automaker and allow them to specify everything from colours and interior trim to optional items.
Mitsubishi has been experimenting with the same system in the Netherlands and plan to adopt it in Japan starting with the Smart-based Z car, jointly developed with DaimlerChrysler and scheduled for introduction in 2004.
Mitsubishi says that the new system will shorten delivery time to only two weeks.
