Mitsubishi Motors said it has started production of its European-spec i-MiEV electric vehicle – along with the Peugeot iOn and Citroën C-ZERO variants – at its Mizushima plant in Japan.
MMC has been producing and selling the Japanese-specification i-MiEV since last year and production of the European version signals the start of exports. In the current fiscal year ending next March, the company plans to sell 5,000 i-MiEVs overseas, including the versions built for PSA.
The carmaker plans to sell the i-MiEV in 14 European countries including France, the UK and Germany from December.
The European specification i-MiEV has been altered to better suit this market’s requirements, including different front and rear bumpers, added safety features such as active stability control (ASC), new gear selection, and an additional, left hand drive dashboard.
