Mitsubishi Motors’ global production in August was 93,971 units – 90.6% of the total for August 2005. Japanese production reached 47,738 units, up 4.1% year-on-year.


Vehicle sales in Japan reached 13,925 units, up 11.1% month on month – August was the 16th consecutive month of year-on-year sales growth in Japan.


Total sales of MMC passenger cars sales were 9,220 units, up 14.8% year on year.


Commercial vehicle sales were 4,705 units, 104.5% of the August 2005 total, with growth in commercial-use minicars overcoming lower sales of Pajero (Shogun) and Delica (L300), which will be fully redesigned later this fiscal year.


Overseas production for the month totaled 46,233 units, 79.8% of last year’s total.

European production rose 38.8% year-on-year to 6,364 units due to strong sales of the Pininfarina-built Colt CZC cabriolet this fiscal year.


But Asian production dropped to 26,466 units, a 36.3% decline over August 2005, total due to continued unfavourable economic conditions in Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan and other markets.


Production in North America increased to 10,120 units, 111.7% of the total for last year.


Total exports from Japan fell year-on-year to 28,426 units, 84.1% of the year-ago total. Exports to Europe decreased to 8,252 units, 82.3% of the August 2005 total, due in part to lower Pajero/Shogun shipments ahead of the full model change later this fiscal year.


Exports to Asia totaled 1,815 units, 77.5% of the year ago total, again due to unfavourable economic conditions.


Exports to North America declined 5.7% year-on-year, to 4,710 units, due to lower shipments of the Lancer and Outlander lines ahead of full model changes due later this fiscal year.
