Mitsubishi Motors (MMC) has moved Osamu Masuko from his role as president to chairman and chief executive officer while Tetsuro Aikawa is promoted from managing director to president and chief operating officer.
The moves, subject to shareholder approval, are due to take place on 25 June when current chairman Takashi Nishioka retires.
Masuko, 64, has been president since 2005, overseeing a return to profit and the split from former partner Daimler. In his new role he is expected to focus on forging new partnerships.
Aikawa, 59, is an engineer who has been on Mitsubishi’s board since 2005. For the last three years, he has been in charge of global production, streamlining MMC’s model range. He is expected to concentrate on the daily running of the company.
