Mazda Motor Corp plans to enter the Mexican market in October, selling cars assembled in Japan and the US, Jiji Press reported without citing sources.

In the current fiscal year ending March 2006, Mazda plans to sell a total of 2,000 units of three types of cars including a small vehicle and sports car, the news agency said.

Nissan Motor Co and Honda Motor Co are already selling cars in Mexico that has annual sales of 1 million vehicles, Jiji said.

Under a free trade agreement that took effect in April, Japanese new entrant automakers are given duty-free quota, it said.

Suzuki Motor Corp and Isuzu Motors Ltd also plan to export cars to Mexico after 2011 when all levies on exported cars will be abolished.
