Mazda Motor has decided to biannually recruit top contract workers as regular employees to flexibly cope with the expansion of production and achieve cost cuts, company officials said Friday.
Subject to the recruitment are contract workers who have worked for at least one year at its headquarters plant in Hiroshima and its Hofu plant in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Kyodo News reported.
In its first such recruitment, Mazda solicited job applications in August and has selected about 60 applicants to become regular employees in November.
In response, the automaker’s trade union has begun to accept contract workers as members.
The labour and management sides are thus expected to cooperate in boosting workplace morale and improving working conditions.
