Mazda has begun production of the redesigned MX-5 two seat roadster (called the Mazda Roadster in Japan) at its Ujina Plant No.1 in Hiroshima.
The first cars are for Japan where sales begin around June.
Overseas sales will follow.
MX-5 production passed 950,000 units by the end of January 2015.
The model has also been badged as the Miata, primarily in North America.
A vaiant of the new Mazda will be made as the Fiat 124 Spider.
