Toshiyuki Shimegi, head of sales and marketing, took up the post of president of Chrysler Japan on Thursday, becoming the first Japanese to take the helm of the Japan unit in 12 years.

The 50-year-old Shimegi will succeed Christopher Ellis who will return to Chrysler in the US.
Shimegi, a former banker, took his previous post in November 2007.
