Sales of imported cars, trucks and buses in Japan fell 2.2% in July from a year earlier, declining for the first time in two months, according to Bloomberg News.
The Japan Automobile Importers Association reportedly said sales of imported vehicles totalled 22,148 in July, down from 22,636 a year ago.
The slump in imported auto sales reflects a generally weak auto market in Japan where new vehicle sales fell for the sixth straight month in July.
Sales of vehicles made by foreign automaker declined 0.3% to 19,890 vehicles while sales of vehicles produced overseas by Japanese automakers dropped 16% to 2,258 vehicles.
