Honda subsidiary Yachiyo Industry plans to acquire land adjacent to its Yokkaichi factory to build a new plant to streamline minivehicles production for the domestic market, starting with engine assembly.

The announcement in Tokyo, as part of a Honda half-year review media event during which overseas production expansion was also detailed, said that the minivehicle plans had not been finalised.
The new engine assembly plant would allow “synchronous production” of the engine and complete vehicle which would help the automaker improve production efficiency and logistics, Yachiyo said.
Saitama-based Yachiyo Industry, established in 1953, is 50.34% held by Honda Motor and makes motorcycle and car parts as well as building Honda’s minivehicles such as the Life, Zest, Vamos and Acty. It has five plants in Japan, plus facilities in the US, Canada, Thailand, Vietnam and China, and employs 6,400.
