According to a Jiji Press report, Honda plans to launch a new range of small cars in China at a price of around 100,000 yuan ($12,000).

The report says that Honda will start producing the vehicles at its Chinese joint venture Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co. in fiscal 2003 for launch in autumn 2003.

The report adds that the new small vehicles will be designed to appeal to ordinary Chinese people.

Honda and its two Chinese partners currently make Honda’s Accord and Odyssey cars in China for local sale. The company recently announced that a new small car plant, making small cars ‘solely for export’ would be added with production planned to start at the end of 2004.
