Honda Motor will start selling the Civic Hybrid sedan in India later this year as part of its plans to boost global sales of hybrid vehicles.

Honda told Kyodo News it was the first automaker to announce the launch of hybrid cars in India.
It sells hybrids in Japan, the United Sates and Europe and started sales in China last November.
The automaker sold a total of 50,000 hybrid cars globally between January and November last year, it told Kyodo, adding it plans to increase sales to 400,000 to 500,000 units by 2010 by expanding sales in emerging markets.
