Honda is recalling some 175,000 hybrid vehicles in Japan including the Fit, over a software problem in engine control units.

Honda is recalling all of the third-generation Fit hybrid as well as the new Vezel subcompact SUV hybrid, both of which went on sale last year and are sold only in Japan, it said.

The software glitches could result in cars suddenly accelerating without warning.

Local media reports suggest that the problem has resulted in some property damage but with no reported injuries.
