For the 10th consecutive year, Honda’s worldwide production increased from the previous year.
The automaker achieved an all-time calendar year record for worldwide production of 3,633,813 units, up 6.6%.
Domestic production experienced its third consecutive year-on-year increase due to an increase in output for overseas markets – production rose 5.6% to 1,332,866 units, including CKD kits.
Due mainly to increased production in North America and Asia, overseas production also experienced a year-on-year increase for the 10th consecutive year. Honda set a new all-time calendar year record for overseas production (+7.1% to 2,300,947) as well as for production in North America (1,385,693, +2.7%), Asia (635,833, +18.7%) and China (352,551, +32.0%).
Total domestic sales experienced a year-on-year decline for the second consecutive year, falling 1.7% to 702,242.
Due to decreased sales of the Air Wave and Odyssey, new non-minivehicle vehicle registrations in calendar year 2006 declined for the second consecutive year, falling 10.6% to 417,582.
Due mainly to an increase in sales of the Zest, mini-vehicle sales exceeded the total from the previous year for the first time in the last two years, rising 15.3% to 284,660.
Due primarily to an increase in exports to North America, total exports experienced a year-on-year increase for the third consecutive year, rising 20.1% to 627,952.
Shipments to the USA rose 42.7% to 320,773.
