Several Japanese companies have stepped up their state of alert following the outbreak of swine flu in Mexico and the US, deciding to introduce countermeasures such as banning employees from travelling to Mexico.

Sanyo Electric Co. and Bridgestone Corp. told employees not to visit Mexico as well as the United States, while Hitachi Ltd. instructed representatives in Mexico to immediately send their families back to Japan, Koyodo reported.

Toshiba, Kao, Nissan, Toyota and and Sumitomo are among companies that have reportedly decided to ban employees from visiting Mexico, the initial epicentre of the flu outbreak.
