Subaru car maker Fuji Heavy Industries on Friday said it is recalling 19,867 Samber minivehicles for free repairs after five vehicles caught fire, Dow Jones reported, citing Kyodo News.
Subject to the recall are automatic-transmission models produced between March 1999 and June 2000, according to a report filed with the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Ministry, the report said.
The first fire took place in Fukuoka Prefecture, southern Japan in December 2001. Four other fires occured across Japan between April and June this year, according to the ministry, Dow Jones said.
Fires could occur due to defective welding on parts of power transmissions which could result in oil leakage, Fuji Heavy said, according to Dow Jones.
